Help, I think my roommate might be borderline...
Does your roommate have difficulty getting along with others? Is your roommate unreasonable irritable and touchy? Has she (or he) threatened or attempted suicide? Are you at a loss for what to do? I can help.
Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is a serious disorder where a person may become intensely angry for seemingly no reason, or they may be so afraid of being left behind that they react in a clingy way or they may even threaten or attempt suicide. Individuals with BPD tend to be challenging to be around and to live with. People close to them describe feeling as though they are "walking on eggshells." It can be very difficult to know how to respond to someone with traits of BPD. Splits often occur and withdrawing can sometimes escalate behavior.
This group is designed to address these issues as well as create a support network for college students with similar difficulties with roommates. Information about BPD from an experienced professional, a supportive, confidential and open atmosphere, and practical suggestions on how to handle specific and challenging behaviors as well as self-care will be addressed.
This group will run for 5 weeks in the fall and is $20.00/session. If you are interested in this group, contact me at lynn@ltatherapy.net.
