Therapy can be daunting and scary, especially at first. Plus, the first appointment is usually a little different from sessions after that.
If you wish to use your insurance to pay for services, please bring your insurance card. I will ask for your card shortly before the appointment.
There will be paperwork to review and sign. Please arrive 10-15 minutes early so that your therapy time is not cut short because of paperwork.
Please be prepared to provide a thorough history of the problem(s), things you have done to help with the problem(s) and your family history, including medical, social, and developmental history since these things may connect to the concern(s). It is important that I get a clear sense of what is going on so that we can begin to develop a plan to work on your goals.
If you are seeking therapy services for your child or adolescent, you may wish to meet separately with me initially in order to speak freely and privately about the concerns. This is fine and may or may not be necessary. This option is left up to the parent. Toys and other activities are provided to ensure that your child feels comfortable during this time.
If you are seeking therapy for your child or adolescent, talk to your son/daughter in general terms appropriate to their age and developmental level about coming to therapy. They may have questions about what therapy is like or concerns about therapy (will my therapist like me?). Encourage your child to bring any questions they have to therapy.
Part of the initial session time will be used to explain the paperwork, information about therapy.
